Making Decisions

I couldn't decide. The offer of a new job was appealing, offering a little more money and with a more prestigious company. I hesitated because I liked my current location. It provided a good income and I got along well with my co-workers. I listed the pros and cons of each position and wondered about the unknowns. Would I have more stress in the new job? Would I let my present employer down by leaving now? I imagined myself in the new job and I thought about spending a few more years in the old. I was worn out with wondering which way to go. Finally, I decided I would just have to pray about it. I got on my knees and told God my problem. I told him that I would leave it in his hands and wait to act until I had a firm answer from him.

Why do I spend so much time worrying about day to day choices, trying to handle them on my own? Why do I only pray as a last resort or in an impossible situation? Yes, I can make an employment choice on my own and probably be contented, but will I always wonder if it was the right choice? To make the best choice, I will seek God first. The bible has told me again and again that my Heavenly Father is interested in every detail of life, even the little things.

Psalm 139 tells me that God knew me when I was still in my mothers womb. He created the inner workings of my heart. He hems me in, front and back. God knows me better than I know myself. God is happy to direct me in the decisions I make and the path I should take.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells me to trust God with all my heart and to not depend on my own understanding of things. He promises to keep me on the right track.

I will do my best to stay close to God. I will keep the lines of communication open so that, like Isaiah told Israel, I will hear God's voice. "Whether you turn to the right of to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it." Isaiah 30:21
