Honeymoon in Jamaica

Itís been 15 years since I spent time in Jamaica (too long!), but I clearly remember the islandís hospitable locals, reggae music, jerk chicken and Red Stripe beer. Turquoise water, white-sand beaches and glorious sunsets all enhance romance on this Caribbean Island.

If I were planning a honeymoon, Iíd consider one of the all-inclusive Sunset properties, located on three different corners of the island. Each has its own strengths and personalities. Hereís a peek.

Sunset at the Palms Resort & Spa, Negril
The 65 treehouse-style guestrooms may be houses built on stilts, but thereís nothing rustic about this chic resort on the western side of the island. Ten acres of lush landscapes make for a scenic setting and Asian-inspired furnishings lend a sophisticated air to the resort. TripAdvisor.com users named it the number-one hotel in Jamaica.

Sunset at the Palms has won awards for its eco-friendly practices. The swim-up bamboo bar is a fun, upbeat place to meet other honeymooning couples. The stretch of beach is pristine. Borrow a catamaran, kayak or snorkeling equipment here; all non-motorized watersports are included in your all-inclusive vacation.

Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa, Ocho Rios
The extensively renovated Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa is situated on the islandís northern coastline and occupies the longest stretch of beachfront in the resort town of Ocho Rios. This resort is much larger than Sunset at the Palms, with 730 rooms and suites located in two towers separated by a open-air lobby overlooking the blue waters of the Caribbean.

Splash around in five huge swimming pools in the beachside complex, featuring waterfalls, a meandering river, hot tubs, swim-up bars and a swaying rope bridge. Each week, thereís a Jamaican Beach Party, where tiki torches line the way to an evening of steel drum music, beachfront bonfires, and an authentic Jamaican-style buffet.

Although spa treatments arenít included in the all-inclusive vacation, you can indulge at the Aqua Azul Spa. The Jamaican-inspired services include a milk and honey body wrap, mango manicure and coffee ground scrub. World-famous Dunnís River Falls, named Jamaicaís top tourist attraction, are nearby.

Sunset Beach Resort & Spa, Montego Bay
Situated on its own private peninsula, Sunset Beach Resort & Spa is only 15 minutes from the Montego Bay airportóso as soon as you land in Jamaica youíre just a few miles away from your oceanfront accommodations.

Rooms here are either in the low-rise beach wing or two 10-story towers. Honeymooners should consider a deluxe suite, with private hot tub, multiple balconies and separate living room with plenty of room to spread out.

The big draw here is the Pirateís Paradise water park. Race your fiancť down a pair of 35-foot water slides, or just float along the lazy river. There are also three freshwater swimming pools on the property and three distinct beach areas, one clothing optional.
