Poltergeist

The Freeling family is terrorized by unseen forces that rule their home. But things go from bad to worse when youngest daughter, Carol Anne, is taken captive. It’s up to the family to use unconventional methods to rescue her from the spirits of the house. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Poltergeist”.

· When the closet door open, some of the toys are being slowly pulled inside. A carriage with a doll overturns near the closet, next to a doll house and cribs with a red blanket. The scene cuts to a view outside and then an overhead view of the room where more toys are being sucked into the closet. While Carol Anne holds onto the headboard, it shows that the carriage is now near her bed, away from the closet but eventually gets pulled in. Also during this scene, the red chair that’s to the left of the closet door gets pulled inside. A moment later, as the clown flies into the closet, the view of the door shows the red chair is still upright outside the closet (the lower part of the chair is covered by Robbie’s bed covers.

· Carol Anne is holding onto the white headboard of her bed when the toys are being pulled into the closet. In the close-up, she loses her grip with her left hand and then her right, with nothing in her hands. But in the view of her flying into the closet, Carol Anne is holding a piece of the headboard in both hands.

· Robbie gets into the back seat of the taxi and the dog jumps in with him. They’re both still in the backseat as Robbie closes the door. But when his mom calls him a moment later, the close-up view shows Robbie is still in the back but the dog is in the front looking out the window.

· Diane walks to the kitchen to give the doctor her flask. When she walks to the table, Diane is holding her coffee cup in her left hand and the flask in her right. It cuts to a closer view as she sits down and they’re suddenly switched. The coffee cup is in her right hand. She sets the coffee up on the table and takes the flask from her left hand.

· CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! At the end, Robbie gets into bed and tosses his truck to the side. The Darth Vader figure is behind him and he reaches over to turn out the light which is next to the wall. It cuts to a farther view and the Darth Vader figure and the lamp have switched places. The light is behind him and the Darth Vader figure is closest to the wall. They’re back in the original position when he pulls the blanket over him and then flipped again when he realizes the clown is missing.

“Poltergeist” (1982) stars JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Heather O’Rourke, Dominique Dunne, Beatrice Straight and Oliver Robins. It runs 114 minutes and is rated PG for frightening/intense scenes, alcohol/drugs/smoking, profanity and violence/gore.
