I am dedicating a series of articles on new artists that you should be listening to and this piece will focus on the husband and wife team of Sojo Ministries.
Sojo Ministries is a blend of the first names of Sophia and Joe Yancey, Jr., the Atlanta based couple who “fell into” the ministry many years ago. Their ministry started when Joe, a well-known producer who has worked with the likes of The Keynotes and Bill Gaither needed someone to sing a couple of songs he had produced. He asked his wife to sing the songs and she agreed. Once the songs were complete he took them around to various people to listen to and one individual told him they liked her voice. Soon they were invited to perform at local church in Wilmington, Delaware which was their home town at the time.
“We got invited to perform at one place and then we got invited to another. We found ourselves making business cards to pass out and then we made more songs and our ministry just grew from there,” said Sophia.
One of their latest single “Rejoice” is an up-tempo, contemporary tune that features Sophia’s soprano vocals and speaks of rejoicing in the day that the Lord has given you. “We want our music to uplift people. We want it to touch their hearts and we know we can do that by staying true to his word,” states Joe. “We believe that the pure in heart will be heard,” adds Sophia.
They also just released “Trouble Won’t Last” a smooth song that says exactly what the title states, trouble won’t last always. At the end of the day Sojo Ministries want to let their listeners know that changing lives and bringing people to God is what really matters most to them. “We just want to let people know that when you go through different troubles in life you can turn to God and they don’t last always.”
