| Digital Scrapbooking hit the market several years ago and has come a long way. One change that I have noticed is that some companies are making traditional and digital products, now called hybrid, which gives the digital artist more venues to sell their products.|
Most digital scrapbooking papers are sold in a package of 12 300 dpi jpeg image files in coordinating designs. When designing these papers, you need to take into account what is popular at the time as well as add your own style. Letís take a look at whatís popular for digital papers at this time. One of the best places to look for inspiration is Pinterest. Just search for scrapbooking papers. To narrow your search add a topic such as Christmas to the search.
First, you will notice that some paper design packages contain a few staples including lines, dots, diamonds and other geometric patterns. You will find packages featuring only one geometric shape, such as 12 dotted papers. On the other hand, some packages feature a mix of geometric shapes in the same color. Finally, you have packages of coordinating colors and several shape patterns. For example, you can have a solid background with same colored, identical lines across the paper. On the other hand, you can use lines in several coordinating colors and varying thicknesses.
Besides geometric shapes, there are papers featuring common subjects. Although not one of my favorites, flowers is another popular pattern. These designs can feature small repeating flowers, or other subject, across the paper or one large flower as the point of interest with supporting details. Another staple is the solid colored paper with no pattern. These papers usually have texture added for interest such as ink splashes or grudge texture.
Besides these generic papers, we also have papers for almost any holiday or special occasion. These papers usually feature iconic color schemes and symbols, such as red and green with Santa for Christmas, orange and black with bats for Halloween and red and white with hearts for Valentineís day.
Once youíve designed your papers, you will also want to design coordinating elements. These also are sold as downloadable packages which include everything imaginable from alphas and titles to frames and tags.
When designing your own papers, you can add your own style with the color scheme you choose and any additional techniques such as digital distressing. One good example of this is the product line from Graphic 45 which features only vintage inspired designs.
