If you're employed full time, either in a home office or elsewhere, you probably spend at least 40 hours a week in your office. In order for you to feel productive, happy, healthy, and friendly, your office must have a good flow of positive energy. It needs to have harmony and balance and be a pleasing place to spend time.
If you don't feel good coming into your office each day, it probably has a negative energy flow. If you don't seem to be attracting clients, your office probably has a negative energy flow. So what can you do to create balance and harmony for a positive energy flow? It might be as simple as clearing the clutter or as major as completely rearranging your office.
The first step is to clear all clutter. This means file cabinets, drawers, desks, under desks, on top of tables and cabinets and so on. Find a place for everything and organize it in its proper place. Discard or file anything that isn't being used. If equipment in your office is broken, either have it repaired or discard it. Only keep items on your desk that you're currently working with and file everything else.
If your desk is arranged so that your back is to your door, rearrange it so you can see the door. If this isn't possible, place a mirror so you can see behind you. It's also not ideal to have your back to a window. If you must, cover the window with draperies, even sheer ones will work.
The lighting in your office must be bright enough to not be gloomy and the best lighting is natural sunlight. Most offices use florescent lighting so if you can, choose white rather than the yellowish bulbs.
If you greet clients in your office, be sure to have comfortable chairs and never stack papers in these chairs. Having to clear chairs gives the impression that you don't have many clients plus this clutter creates negative energy.
For ambience, place plants around your office. These can be real plants or silk and rounded leaves are best but Lucky Bamboo is also a good choice. If you choose real plants, keep them watered and dead leaves trimmed. If you choose silk, keep them dusted.
Lastly, make sure the entrance to your office is clear of clutter and has a welcoming atmosphere. This is important whether or not you have clients visiting. What you see as you approach you door and enter your office will have an impact on how you approach your work.
