Coal Miner's Daughter

Loretta Webb is a young girl who lives with her parents and brothers and sisters in the coal mining hills of Butcher Holler, KY. At the age of thirteen, despite the misgivings of her parents, she is courted by and marries the boisterous Doolittle Lynn. Although their marriage is tumultuous at first, they eventually settle into a life of homemaking and raising children. But when Doolittle surprises her with a guitar one year for their anniversary, he realizes that her singing can rival the best that the music industry has to offer and pushes Loretta to pursue her path to stardom. But even with the perks of playing on the Grand Ole Opry and befriending legendary singer Patsy Cline, the pair soon learns that the pathway to country music and worldwide fame has its way of taking a toll. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Coal Miner’s Daughter”.

• Doolittle grabs his coat and leaves the house after arguing with Loretta. His lunch pail is on the table next to the door and the handle is sticking up. Loretta yells “Doo, are you leaving?” and the view of him from the door shows the lunch pail is now moved closer to the lamp that is sitting on the table and the handle is down.

• Doolittle takes Loretta’s picture and her collar is sticking noticeably out, over her right shoulder. But in the pictures that he mails to the different radio stations, her collar is covered.

• Loretta wakes up in the car and realizes they’re in front of the Grand Ole Opry. Doolittle comes along with a bag of donuts. Outside the car, he empties the bag and puts it near the windshield with the opening/top facing away from the two of them. The scene cuts to an overhead view and the paper bag is flat, with the bottom of the bag facing away from them.

“Coal Miner’s Daughter” (1980) stars Sissy Spacek, Tommy Lee Jones, Levon Helm, Phyllis Boyens and Beverly D’Angelo. It runs 125 minutes and is rated PG for mature thematic material, sensuality, language and some violence.
