Women Living for Today

If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you always got. ~ Henry Ford

Today’s woman faces as many if not more challenges than ever before. Although she has more opportunities, those opportunities come with more responsibilities and an increased commitment of time. This time takes her away from family and often her own personal freedom. That is why today’s woman must stay focused on what is important to her.

If she doesn’t do today what she didn’t do yesterday, because she is willing to put it off until another tomorrow, then she wasted an opportunity to grow. So continuing to do what she has always done will simply result in getting what she always got. There is a song lyric by the Canadian singer Roger Whittaker that goes like this:

“I met a man who had a dream he’s had since he was 20. I met that man when he was 81. He said too many folks just stand and wait until the morning . . . don’t they know tomorrow never comes.”

How many hopes and dreams have women squandered away simply because they failed to pursue them. There is no need to fret about yesterday or dream about tomorrow because the best day of your life will always be today. Tomorrow never gets here and yesterday will never come again. If she can’t live today, then yesterday was lived in vain and tomorrow will have no point. How many days of her life is she willing to lose? We are the sum total of everything we have done to this point in our life . . . no more, no less.

Today is her day – she must Live it, love it, and enjoy it. If she chooses to live in the past then she has no future. So the sooner she puts the past behind her the better. Whether the past was good or bad it’s still the past. She must live for today – celebrate life today – live her life out loud and to it’s fullest. Be the entire woman she was meant to be. She can never accept “can’t” as a reason not to try. Never accept less than what she knows she deserves. The more she agrees to succeed, the less she agrees to fail. It’s her life – failure is NOT an option unless she chooses it to be. Since tomorrow never comes and the past will never come again, she can only act today! And it’s what she agrees to do today that will become who she is. So, why not be all she can be today? William Shakespeare said it well, “To Thine Own Self Be True!”

The question is: Will today’s woman continue to do what she’s always done and continue to get what she’s always got? Or will she take a chance on something new, something different, or something challenging? Her answer to this question will determine where she goes in life and whether she becomes all she can be. Be all you can be today and yesterdays and tomorrows won’t matter. Living for today means:

Don’t live in the past, there is no future there.
Don’t live in the future; there is no present there.
Live in the now, it’s the only time you have any control over.

Today’s woman knows that if she is to succeed, she must work at it and she must never give up on her dreams. No one ever said life would be easy. And indeed it’s not. But for those who can look in the mirror and say “I’m worth the effort”, the world is theirs.
