Entertaining your Kids in Rainy Portland

Most RVers who visit Portland are bound to get caught in a few days’ worth of rain. It’s only natural in the Pacific Northwest; and as the saying goes, “it’s what makes everything so green.” But if you have some young kiddos, rather than staying cooped up inside your RV watching Tangled for the fiftieth time, get out and do the fun things that Portland has to offer for indoor play. Below are just a few of our favorite places to play indoors in Portland when the weather keeps us inside.

The Portland Children’s Museum, located at 4015 SW Canyon Road, is geared for infants up to elementary school aged children. Fun features include the Play It Again Theater where kids can dress up and perform shows for their eager parental audience; the veterinary clinic where children can pretend to be vets for the day; the grocery store where children can become shoppers or check-out clerks; the water feature for splashing around, face painting station, and so much more. The snack bar also serves healthy, gluten-free and vegan-friendly food.

Playdate PDX, located at 1434 NW 17th Avenue, is a very popular indoor play space for the locals. It has a huge multi-story play structure that features slides and all kinds of fun contraptions to keep the kiddos happy for hours. They also have café with yummy, kid-friendly snacks and beverages.

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is a great place for kids of all ages. It’s actually one of our all-time favorite places to go. The massive building is full of natural light and a vast array of activities. The museum features several kid-friendly exhibits, including the Science Playground, a zone that is just perfect for toddlers to explore and play. The café also features a wide variety of healthy foods.

Lloyd Center Mall, conveniently located at 2201 Lloyd Center, is wonderful mall that has every store you’ll need for your shopping pleasure. The mall features an extensive, brightly-lit food court; indoor ice skating ring; movie theater; and a great kid’s play area on the lower level.

And, one of our all-time favorite places to go is Electric Castle’s Wunderland. With multiple locations throughout the Portland metropolitan area, there’s sure to be a Wunderland near where you parked it. Wunderland, a fun and fabulous nickel arcade amusement center, will be sure to entertain the whole family for hours.
