Designing Wedding Stationary

Digital art has become a very important part of wedding stationary. With many graphics programs, the bride can create a personal wedding stationary without the need of a professional printer. There are many pieces to wedding stationary from the traditional wedding invitation to a wedding website.

When designing the theme for a wedding stationary, there is a challenge to balance popular trends with tradition. Because of the popularity of digital cameras, one new trend is to use a photograph of the soon-to-be bride and groom as the main element in the design. Another currently popular design trend that has carried over into wedding stationary is the chalkboard design, which gives the text the look of chalk on a black background. For those wanting a more traditional theme, there are several designs that have proven popular over generations including the use of florals, monograms and lavish geometric designs.

Another aspect to keep in mind is the shape of the design. No longer are we limited to the rectangular shape. There are many popular shapes including rounded corners, inverted corners, scallops, circles and more.

Once you have decided on the color scheme and theme for the design, what are the individual pieces of the wedding stationary. Beginning with the announcement of the engagement, there is the wedding website, which is a place for your guest to RSVP, view your photo album, check out your gift registry or read your journal/blog. Other important pieces to the wedding stationary that come into play at this time are the engagement party invitations and the Save the Date announcements. Closer to the wedding day, the wedding invitation suite includes the invitation, response card, enclosure card and thank you cards. For the big day, you will need to think about rehearsal dinner invitations, wedding programs, menus, place and table cards.

But, what design elements are usually part of the wedding stationary design. There is usually one major design element that is used on each piece of the stationary. For example, this could be a photograph of the bride and groom, a casual floral element or a formal flourish or geometric pattern. It is also common to include the bride’s and groom’s initials or names. This common design element appears throughout the wedding stationary, along with the carefully chosen typography.
