These brats are quick and easy, since they are prepared in the slow cooker and don’t require the cook to monitor them. They are best served on freshly baked crusty French rolls from the bakery. The Sweet, Sour, & Smokey Mustard BBQ Sauce can be made way ahead; the recipe makes enough to freeze for use whenever it’s needed for meatballs, ribs, chicken, or sausages.

3 pounds bratwurst sausage (uncured)
2 large onions, quartered and sliced
2 cups Sweet, Sour, & Smokey Mustard BBQ Sauce
12 Crusty French rolls
- Brown the brats in a large skillet.
- Transfer to a 3-4 quart slow cooker.
- Stir in the onions; pour the sauce over all.
- Cover and let cook on low 4-6 hours (2-3 hours on high).
- If the sauce is too thin, turn the slow cooker to high, tilt the lid, and let cook an hour.
