A Fish Called Wanda

Archie Leach is a barrister in England who is bored with his lifestyle and particularly, his overbearing wife, Wendy. That all changes when he meets the vivacious American, Wanda Gershwitz. However, he soon finds himself thrown into the midst of Wanda’s scheme, which is to double and triple cross her partners in crime and fellow diamond thieves, Georges, the boyfriend she frames, Ken, the animal lover and the dim-witted Otto, the lover she keeps on the side. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching the comedy “A Fish Called Wanda”.

• Wanda, Georges and Otto are in Ken’s apartment planning the diamond heist. When Ken gets ready to leave, he stops at the fish tank. A mirror can be seen behind Otto during this time and when he moves to leave, the overhead microphone can be seen moving with him.

• After Georges’ first court appearance, he’s seen slipping a note to Ken. When Ken walks down the sidewalk he’s taunted by Otto. Behind Ken there is a vehicle parked on the side of the road that is there in some views but it’s gone in others throughout the scene.

• Ken’s first attempt to eliminate Mrs. Coady finds him in the back of a van with a Doberman. He gets the dog to smell an undergarment to get Mrs. Coady’s scent. When the Doberman jumps out the back of the van, the dog has the undergarment on his back. The undergarment is seen falling off of the dog, onto the ground, once he hits the street. But, in a wide view of the area, after the dog has run off, there is no undergarment to be seen.

• When Archie and Wanda first meet at the flat, they start dancing around the room. Right afterwards, while they’re talking, Wanda’s hands change position several times throughout the scene. First her hands are shown behind his neck, then they’re on his shoulders and then back behind his neck once again.

“A Fish Called Wanda” (1988) stars John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, Michael Palin, Maria Aitken, Patricia Hayes and Geoffrey Palmer. It runs 108 minutes and is rated R due to language, sexual content and violence.
