Cold Mountain

The Civil War is raging throughout the country. Inman, a wounded Confederate soldier, risks everything to try to make his way back home to Cold Mountain where his true love, Ada, lives. The prolonged war has also taken its toll on Ada who is living in desperate conditions before the arrival of outspoken and headstrong Ruby. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Cold Mountain”.

• When Ruby first arrives, Ada is sitting on the porch. Ada stands up to talk to Ruby and, at first, her shawl is across the lower part of her left arm. In the next view of her, the shawl is around her shoulder. It’s back around her left arm again in the next view of her.

• Ruby and Ada are trying to mend the fences around the house. A horse can be seen in the background during the scene. At first the horse is near the fence, facing downhill. In the next view, the horse is facing uphill near the open part of the fence. A few moments later, the horse is facing downhill again.

• Inman is traveling with Reverend Veasey when they come upon a man trying to get a bull out of the creek. At first the bull is stuck in the creek at an angle and closer to the side. But, after Inman takes off his hat and coat, the bull is further in the water and is straight in the creek bed.

• Inman finds a small house where Sara lives with her baby son. When the two are sharing a bed, in the side view, Inman’s right hand is by his side. The scene cuts to an overhead view and Inman’s right hand is on her shoulder.

• Near the end of the movie, when Ada and Ruby are on the mountain looking for Ruby’s father, Stobrod, Ada goes to hunt for food. When Ada is leaving, she has two ponytails. But, in the following scene, she only has one.

“Cold Mountain” (2003) stars Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger, Brendan Gleeson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Donald Sutherland, Jack White and Eileen Watkins. It runs 154 minutes and is rated R for violence and sexuality.
