The Phantom Of The Opera (2004)

Is it a musical genius, an insane phantom or a mixture of both that lurks in the opera house in Paris? When Christine takes center stage at the opera house, not only does she catch the eye of her childhood friend, Raoul, but also the mysterious Phantom of the Opera. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching the 2004 musical, “The Phantom of the Opera”.

∙ Madame Giry is explaining the contents of the letter to Andre and Firmin, the new owners of the opera house, after the incident with Carlotta. Andre is reading the letter. There is a close-up of him holding the letter and he has a pair of grey gloves in his left hand. It cuts to a farther view when Firmin takes the letter from him and the gloves are no longer in his hand.

∙ There is a far/overhead view of Meg as she’s trying to make her way through the crowd of people in the hallway after Christine’s first performance. In the overhead view, she is seen passing by Andre as he’s talking to a lady. In the following close-up, she passes by Andre and the lady again.

∙ The Phantom has Christine in his lair for the first time when she suddenly faints after seeing a model of herself. When he puts her on the bed, in the overhead view, he caresses her left cheek with his right hand. His hand moves away. But in the next side view, he’s caressing her cheek again.

∙ At the masquerade ball, the Phantom throws down a black folder that contains the play “Don Juan”. But when he was descending the stairs, he wasn’t holding the folder. Where did it come from?

∙ Christine is at the cemetery to visit her father’s grave. She has a thin, black scarf over her head when she enters the graveyard, but when she starts singing, it’s off. Also during the scene, she’s holding a bouquet of flowers. In the close-up, both hands are holding the flowers and it’s directly in front of her. But in the next overhead/front view, she’s holding the flowers in her right hand, to her side.

∙ Christine is in the Phantom’s lair again. He puts the bridal veil on her head but in the next side view, while he’s singing “an eternity of this”, the veil is not on her head. In the next view of Christine, the veil is back on her head again and she eventually takes it off.

∙ Near the end of the movie, a group of people arrive, looking for Christine, Raoul and the Phantom. Meg is wearing brown pants. The legs of the pants are noticeably wet, since she’s just walked through water. But in the next view of her, when she’s looking around, her pants are dry!

“The Phantom Of The Opera” (2004) stars Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson, Miranda Richardson, Minnie Driver, Ciaran Hinds and Simon Callow. It runs 143 minutes and is rated PG-13 for brief violent images.
