Drawing with Ornaments in Motion 5

In this tutorial, we will finished the YouTube channel trailer Intro or Logo Reveal for a craft business. There are many craft related videos on YouTube and a professional logo reveal for your YouTubeR channel will make you stand out from the crowd.

The first logo animation that we created in the previous AppleR MotionR tutorial moves the logo from above the screen to the middle of the screen and ends at 2 seconds on the Timeline. At this point, we are ready to add the animated scroll using the prebuilt Ornaments animation from the Motion Library.

  1. Select the Logo layer in the Layers pane. With the Playhead at the 2 seconds mark of the Timeline, go to Library - Content - Drawings - Ornament 12 and click Apply. You may wish to use a different Ornament in the folder that is a better match to your logo.

You will see a new layer added to the Logo group in the Layers pane. Rename the layer to “Ornament”.

You will also see the Ornament layer added to the Timeline. We want the Ornament animation to last 2 seconds and the entire reveal to last 10 seconds. Except for the Move layer which ends at 2 seconds, let’s adjust the duration of the rest of the layers in the Timeline.

  2. Drag the right edge of each layer to the 10 seconds mark on the Timeline. Do not do this step for the Move layer.

This prebuilt animation has a 2 seconds duration and begins at the 2 seconds point on the Timeline. Therefore, the animation will end at the 4 seconds point on the Timeline. Move the Playhead to the 4 seconds mark. At this point, the ornament will be in its finished size and position.

Let’s position the ornament under the logo and resize it to fit the length of the business name. You might want to uncheck the BG layer to turn of the white background. This will allow you to see the white colored Ornament better.

  3. We can resize the ornament in the Inspector. Select the Ornament layer in the Layers pane. Go to Inspector - Properties and use the Scale slider to resize the object to 40%.

  4. Now drag the control handle of the object to position it centered under of the business name.

Finally, we need to reduce the opacity of the Ornament to give a more chalk-like appearance.

  5. In the Properties tab of the Inspector, use the Opacity slider to reduce the opacity to 50%.

  6. Test the animation. See sample below.

At this point, we can add some background music and export the project for YouTube. We will also save the project in the default .motn format, so that we can use it as the beginning of a product trailer.
