I have been tatting since 1979 but I have been collecting stamps since 1957. One of the stamp topics I collect is, not unsurprisingly, lace on stamps. I have exhibited my lace stamps along the way and have been pleased to receive a medal or two. There are many European countries which have issued stamps with lace, lacemaking, bobbins and bobbin lace pillows, women making lace. So, I am always on the watch for new stamps. As I read the American Philatelist Journal recently, I was studying a page on Moroccan stamps. I noted that some of the geometric designs on the walls and in the architecture might lend themselves to tatting designs.

Thoughts of design were still on mind when I began to tidy up my desk. My pile of books and vintage patterns to study was still quite high and beginning to slide toward the floor. I wish I could just pick up a pattern and book and file it right away, but I can't resist reading through it first. I was looking at this page from an old Needlecraft Magazine when I saw this doily. It looked like a Moorish arch to me!








Pattern uses two shuttles wound continuous thread method (CTM) for round one. Note the asterisk marking the start of the repeat.
