Paper Bead SVG Cut Files

In this IllustratorR tutorial, we will continue making an SVG cut file for paper beads. In the previous tutorial, we created a tube and oval bead. Now we will create a cone and hour glass shaped bead.

Cone Bead

For a cone shaped bead, which is created from a triangle with a straight side, we can start with a duplicate of the oval bead.

  1. Select the large oval bead shape and click Edit - Copy and Edit - Paste to make a duplicate of the shape.

  2. With the shape still selected, click the left anchor point that you just added, using the Delete Anchor Point tool. This will remove that anchor point, as we don’t need it for this bead.

  3. Select the anchor point at the tip of the triangle with the Direct Selection tool and move the point to the left until it is line with the bottom left anchor point, to create a long straight edge.

  4. For the .5 inch bead, make a duplicate of this shape and set the Width to .5 inch in the Control Panel.

Hour Glass Shaped Bead

Our final bead will be a tube bead that narrows in the center, like a hour glass. We will start with a duplicate of the rectangular bead shape.

  1. Copy and paste a duplicate of the large rectangular bead shape.

  2. As we did previously, add two new anchor points 1 inch from the bottom of the rectangle.

  3. Now add a third anchor point at the center of the opposite short edge.

  4. Select the third anchor point with the Direct Selection tool and move the anchor point upward until it is in line with the other two anchor points. You will have three new anchor points 1 inch from the bottom edge of the shape with the third anchor point in the center.

  5. For the .5 inch bead, make a duplicate of this shape and set the Width to .5 inch in the Control Panel.

The Thin Beads

Now that we have all the thick bead shapes, we will create the thinner bead shapes. We will make a duplicate of each thick bead and change the Height to 5 inches.

  1. Make a duplicate of the 1 inch wide rectangular shape.

  2. With the shape still selected, set the Height to 5 inches in the Control panel.

Repeat this for the other bead shapes.
