What to Bring to the Pool

In a previous article I discussed children at the pool and beach - their actions, proper parent's responses and ensuring that everyone - not just you and your kids - enjoy your experience. This article covers topics revolving around your pool time and what to bring.

The easiest way to ensure you have fun at the pool is to bring the right items with you. Going to the pool differs from going to the beach. At the beach a lot can happen: Volleyball, getting sandy, bbq or picnics, plus all the water stuff. At the pool you are going to swim, get wet, sit poolside and then swim some more. There can be a lot of items necessary to bring when hanging out poolside." Here's a quick and consolidated list of what you will need.
Attire
When going to the pool, make sure to wear good, swimming attire. Clothing that can get wet and is easily taken off and on is best. This means first and foremost, a swim suit if you are planning to get wet. If you are going to JUST sit by the pool and sun yourself, then shorts and a t-shirt and tank or a cover-up are going to be adequate. But, considering there is water close by, odds are that you are going to get wet. There's a huge possibility that you may get drenched. Dressing in a swim suit is a good bet.
You also want to arrive with a cover-up of some sort. Flip flops or sandals will keep your feet happy when moving from the pool to your lounge chair.

Accessories
Sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, towels, are all items to take, in addition to the swim suit and shoes. Keep in mind that you are in a water setting. Odd are you are likely to get wet. While you may not want to get your hair or face wet, you may get splashed. When deciding about makeup, this is good info to tuck away. Speaking of tucking away, a couple of hair ties are also good to keep on hand.

Having a pool bag at the ready is always a good idea. You can have clean towels, a water bottle or two, hats and sunglasses in a bag. All you need is to get dressed and you are ready to go. Oh, and add an extra pair of underwear to the pool bag. Once your suit is soaked and chlorine smelling, and it's time to go home, it's easiest to strip off the suit, rinse off the chlorine and wrap the suit in the towel. Then you can put on some dry clothing for the ride/walk home.

Be sure to check out my other articles about beachy days, clothing that works poolside and on the beach and finally the difference between having fun and being obnoxious when adventuring outdoors.
