It has oft been declared that beauty comes from the inside. For those of us who have personal experience with this truth, we know how transformative a process this can be. In a day of Botox and plastic surgery, and a consistent stream of ads of celebrities with their skin photoshopped to perfection, it is easy to get caught up in the race for outer beauty. Once we take a few steps to work on our inner spirit though, we, and others, can literally see the beauty on our face, in our eyes, in our stride, and in our smiles.
Three areas of natural inner beauty that are easy to work on are our spirit, our minds, and our health. When these three areas are in sync, are fully taken care of, and at ease, we feel and see this beauty on our faces, in our relationships and in our actions.
The most natural ways to foster a healthy spirit are to connect with whatever it is that fills your heart and soul with joy. An amazing run in nature, or a picnic in the park with my husband is some of what it takes for my spirit to feel renewed. Perhaps for you singing, attending a faith-based service, or playing an instrument fills your spirit with happiness. Whatever you love to do, just do it. One time-tested effective way to fill your spirit is to keep a gratitude journal. Try to write five things you are grateful for at the end of each day - your spirit will soar and your energy will increase as you recognize all of the beautiful gifts you have in your life.
A healthy mind is one that is filled with positive thoughts. Have you ever noticed how telling yourself you look great before an important meeting actually helps that meeting to go better? Reality is entirely created by our thoughts. If we think we will have a rotten day we are most likely going to have a rotten day. So, simply, turn those thoughts into positive ones. Talk to yourself with kindness. Be as good a friend to yourself as you are to your family and friends. Would you ever talk to your friend with insulting words? Of course not! So, please donít talk to yourself with insulting words. Positive thoughts and positive self-talk make a huge difference in boosting our self-confidence and self-esteem. And that inner beauty can definitely show on the outside.
Health happens internally. What we choose to put into our bodies makes a big difference in how we look on the outside. Avoiding cigarettes, fatty foods, and other unhealthy items can help our insides, our hearts and lungs to feel better and do the work our bodies need to do to keep us strong. There is such a taste difference when enjoying a freshly picked carrot versus a bag of chips. That taste difference is your body applauding and cheering the healthy fuel you need to stay strong and beautiful on the inside.
Look at the ways you are creating beauty inside, in your spirit, mind and health, to achieve greater natural inner and outer beauty. This beauty will help you live a life that is congruent with who you are, your strengths, and your passions.
