I love music and books. For this reason, I thought about starting a book club for our MP3/iTunes site, but it just didn’t feel right. So, I decided to start an audiobook club.
The idea came when I was eating a bowl of Apple Jacks and thinking about how I could add more titles to my reading list. For me, being a little uncoordinated, it’s not easy to eat and read. I’m always trying to balance plate and silverware. I can listen to music of course, or watch television, but the books have to wait until the meal is over. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not a recluse or anything, I mean I do enjoy a social dinner. I just seem to spend a lot of time eating alone.
Along with being an author and student, I’m a collage artist. This means I like to paste things onto inanimate objects. MP3s and iTunes have become my dearest friends. So, after my Apple Jacks were gone, I did a little research. My first stop was the iTunes Store. I found an entire category for audiobooks. Within that category, I found my favorite genre – middle grade and teen fiction – available for download. I then went to Amazon.com to check out their selection and found they have a subscription audio download service available that is very similar to my Napster to Go subscription. I plan to research this a little more and give you the scoop within the next couple of weeks.
Now that I’ve made a very short story very long, the ending is simple. I’m gong to start a MP3/iTunes Audiobook Club. Each month I will review a download and tell you a little about the plot, the narrator, the length and where you can find the file. I will post the first selection review next week. Below, I have listed a schedule for the next four months. Before I forget, all of my selections will be “unabridged” which means that what you hear on the download is exactly what is in the book.
MP3/iTunes Audiobook Club Selections:
September – A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
October – The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart
November – The Higher Power of Lucky by Susan Patron
For each audiobook selection review, I will post a thread in our forum for discussion.
Have a great week!
