I’ve read my copy of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill so many times, the binding is literally falling apart. Why do I keep going back and reading it again and again? I quickly realized that every time I read it, I come away with some new “aha” about myself and about my ability to achieve greater financial success. Needing a new copy, although I’m keeping my old one for sentimental reasons, I picked Think and Grow Rich: The Landmark Bestseller – Revised and Updated for the 21st Century. It was revised and expanded by Dr. Arthur R. Pell and that's the version of Think and Grow Rich I’m reviewing in this article.
If you’ve read the original version, you know it is filled with outdated words and phrases. This edition by Dr. Pell was published in 2005 and is updated with modern language. I found it was much easier to stay focused on Napoleon Hills’ principles and concepts because the outdated language wasn’t distracting me.
If you haven’t yet read this book you’ll find it to be a step-by-step guide for harnessing the power of your mind. If you have read it before, it may be time to read it again. What does this have to do with your business? Everything! Your mind will either support your successes or hold you back from achieving your goals. The best part is, you control the thoughts that control how you do business day-to-day.
In fact, Chapter 1 is all about “The Power of Thought.” This book was written during the Great Depression – during uneasy economic times not unlike what many of us are experiencing today. Napoleon Hill wrote Think and Grow Rich to show us how to pull ourselves out of depression and create abundance and prosperity in our lives. The power of this book is as great today as it was in 1937 – it gives us sixteen chapters of practical how-to’s for ending poverty consciousness and creating greater prosperity and abundance both personally and professionally.
Yes, we can think and act ourselves prosperous. The mind is a powerful money making tool, when it is used properly. This book has been recommended for so many years because the advice is sound, practical and when applied, it works.

The chapter that stands out in my mind is the “The Power of the Master Mind.” I read that chapter and organized my own Master Mind group of like-minded entrepreneurial women. After several years, we are still master minding weekly. Yes, this book is powerful if you commit to putting it into action! The key to getting the most out of Think and Grow Rich is to not only read the words of wisdom but to use them in your life.
I challenge you to read all sixteen chapters and to apply what you are reading to your life. Make notes as you are reading, highlight important sentences and make a commitment to apply what the author is suggesting. Remember that change won’t happen over night, it takes time. Thinking and growing rich begins one positive step at a time.
