Today In …

1743 - Handel’s “Messiah” was first performed in London.

1775 - Patrick Henry delivered his legendary “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech in Richmond, Virginia.

1806 - After exploring the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark began their trip back home.

1903 - The Wright Brothers applied for a patent for the airplane.

1912 - The Health Kup was invented. The name would be changed a few years later to what we now call the Dixie Cup!

1919 - The Fascist Political party was founded by Benito Mussolini in Italy.

Amanda Plummer who starred in “Needful Things” and “Pulp Fiction” was born in 1957.

Keri Russell who starred on TV’s “Felicity” and in the films “We Were Soldiers” and “Mission: Impossible III” was born in 1976.

Peter Lorre who starred in “Arsenic and Old Lace”, “Casablanca” and “The Maltese Falcon” passed away in 1964 at the age of 59.

Uncle Dave Macon legendary country music pioneer passed away in 1952 at the age of 81.

Mae Murray who appeared in a number of films including “The French Doll” passed away in 1965 at the age of 75.

Paul I the tsar of Russia was killed in 1801 at the age of 46.

1839 - The term “OK” was first used in print when it appeared in the “Boston Morning Post”.

1999 - Thomas Harris delivered the manuscript for “Hannibal” to publishers.

TV Moments In…

1950 - “Beat the Clock” premiered on CBS.

1973 - The game show “Concentration” ended its fifteen year run on NBC.

1985 - Billy Joel married Christie Brinkley.
