Sea story books are exciting novels of romance and adventure. They contain stories of sea fishing, whaling, travel, pirates and battles. Usually, the sea story books are set in a past time, but many storytellers are setting their stories in the future.
In sea story books, the reader learns about the crew’s daily life at sea. A gifted writer will explain the hierarchy of the sea crew and their duties without distracting the reader from the novel’s fast pace.
A sea pirate story tells of the swashbucklers sailing the seas and their code of honor. The pirate ship sails the Jolly Roger skull and crossbones. Pirate stories contain sword fights and booming cannons. There is the ship captain who is either sinister or benign. And usually, there is booty, a treasure to capture or guard from others.
Also, the pirate story takes the reader to exotic locales. There are deserted islands, various ports of call and far distant lands. The high seas become the superhighway to adventure.
The sea whaling or fishing story book reveals the techniques used to secure the catch and the hardships. The booty for these sailors are not gold or jewels, but the fish or whales. They will later, if the catch is good, trade it for gold and jewels. This life is considered more noble than a pirate’s life.
Sea battles transport the reader straight to the action. Sometimes the sea story is historical and impart information about the sailors and stakes involved in pivotal points in the past. The valiant captain and crew fight wars for the honor and survival of their country. The returning crew is lauded as great patriots. They can contain much naval history.
The sea merchant story tell of the brave people who ply the waters for trade goods. The sea book may take the reader to China, Japan, Venice, or other faraway places. The sea merchant story tell of the local inhabitants and their lifestyles because the merchant must follow their customs when doing business with them.
