1955 - Winston Churchill resigned as Britain’s Prime Minister.

Colin Powell military officer, former national security adviser and former Secretary of State was born in 1937.

Judith Resnik the NASA astronaut who was part of the crew of the ill-fated Challenger was born in 1949.

Spencer Tracy the Oscar winning actor of such films as “Captains Courageous” and “Guess Who’s Coming For Dinner” was born in 1900.

Booker T. Washington the famed educator was born in 1856.

Tony Williams a member of the musical group The Platters was born in 1928.

Kurt Cobain the front man of the rock band Nirvana died in 1994 at the age of 27.

Howard Hughes the infamous entrepreneur, aviator and film maker passed away in 1976 at the age of 70.

Douglas MacArthur the five star General passed away in 1964 at the age of 84.

Lee Petty the legendary race car driver passed away in 2000 at the age of 86.

Gene Pitney the singer of such songs as “Only Love Can Break a Heart” passed away in 2006 at the age of 66.

Layne Staley the front man for the band Alice In Chains passed away in 2002 at the age of 34.

Sam Walton founder of Walmart passed away in 1992 at the age of 74.
