In the course of life, you might have often longed to be included in groups with your peers or chosen to be on those special lists which are prepared after rigorous selection processes. You train and gear up for interviews and exams that you believe to be good for you. At the end of all this, what a thrill it is to be invited to join the group or the job or get the distinction you aspired for! Don’t you feel your heart swell with joy and pride to find your name included?
On the other hand, you may be one of those who did not manage to get into that coveted list. Maybe you read and re read every list, check and re check you mails only to find that you have not been included and there is no invitation on the way for you. You cry, curse the system, slip into depression and lament in a hundred ways. Justly so, for you experience rejection, one of the cruelest feelings to go through.
While there is no way to find justice in the corrupt systems of the world, the word of God beams out hope for everyone in these words,
“ And this includes you, called of Jesus Christ and invited [as you are] to belong to Him.” Romans 1:6. (The Amplified Bible)
The verse begins with the words ‘includes you’. Did this get you wondering what you are included in? The answer is found in the word ‘disciples’ found in the concluding part of verse 5. You are included to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. The best part of this inclusion is that you are invited to belong to Him just as you are.
You might have tried and tried hard to gain access to the privileged groups of the world with no success. Maybe you have made a mark, only to find your achievement heighten the emptiness within.
No matter where you find yourself, this message rings out with hope and sets in front of you an invitation from God. This invitation has not reached you because of your personal merits or good deeds. This invitation is a gift of God to come to Him and belong to Him just the way you are.
God desires for you to reach out and accept His invitation to include you as His disciple. He desires for you to be His saint, designated for a consecrated life (Romans 1:7). He can and will through Jesus Christ, transform your life and make you just this. He can help you clean up on the inside and start afresh as His child. With Him by your side, you can face life with a strength and vigor which is just not your own.
To accept God’s invitation, all you need to do is believe in Christ with a personal trust, make a full and complete surrender of yourself to Him and firmly rely on Him to see you through. God wants you just as you are. Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened and I will cause you to rest. Matthew 11:28 (The amplified Bible). Will you turn your cares and concerns over to Him and let Him have you?
If you will, say this prayer,
‘Dear Father, thank you for including me to be your disciple and for inviting me to belong to you. I come to you just as I am. Please take me in and transform my life. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.’
