Women's Publishers

I receive a lot of emails and even asked in person if I know or work with any publishers that only release titles written by women. There are actually several out there and I have read works by many authors of these companies. Here is a short listing of these publishers and my experiences, if any, with each one.

Seal Press

I have read about 10 titles from Seal Press and have really enjoyed them all. The ones I have liked most or benefited a lot from reading them include Invisible Girls: The Truth About Sexual Abuse by Dr. Patti Feuereisen with Caroline Pincus, Women and Violence by Barrie Levy, Unruly Appetites by Hanne Blank, and Diary of a Mad Housewife by Sue Kaufman. I even submitted my own manuscript to them. The quality of the books are great. The pages are thick and the covers are very sturdy. Seal Press excepts query letters and proposal only through the mail.

a href="http://auntlute.com/">Aunt Lute

From the website: "The mission of Aunt Lute Books is to publish literature by women whose voices have been traditionally under-represented in mainstream and small press publishing. Since 1982, Aunt Lute Books has published books that incorporate the histories and lives of women whose stories often go untold, from dramatic works and poetry to memoirs and historical documents. Our aim is to distribute literature that expresses the true complexity of women’s lives and the possibilities for personal and social change. We embrace the opportunity to work with first-time authors and aim to get their voices into the world." This is another publisher that does not except email submission. Read their guidelines carefully.

Calyx
"CALYX is an independent, nonprofit publisher of contemporary writing and art by women committed to discovering emerging writers and artists from a diversity of backgrounds"

Chicory Blue Press

A publisher for women over 60! I think this is an awesome idea because so many women I know over 60 have some awesome stories to tell!!

The Feminist Press

I don't know why I have never heard of this publisher before. There are several titles I want to get my hands on now!

Do you know of any other publisher who support only women? Have you published using a women only publisher? Let us know in the forum or drop me and email!
