Maisy - Maisy Big, Maisy Small

Maisy, the beloved mouse, is in Maisy Big, Maisy Small. The Maisy books are written and illustrated by Lucy Cousins. The Maisy the Mouse books are for children two to five-years-old. The series is a combination of board and picture books. Ms. Cousins lives in Hampshire, England.

This is a Children book review of the picture book, Maisy Big, Maisy Small. The subject of the colorful Maisy book are opposites. Infants, toddlers and young elementary children will love the simple pictures. The basic concept book makes learning opposites fun.

Children see Maisy clean, then she is messy. Maisy pushes a stroller and later she pulls a sled. She displays thick and thin. Children with Maisy see wiggly and straight objects. There are twenty-six pages of opposites for children to view.

Concept books of opposites are important. They help children to explore their world. The books help children expand their vocabulary. They increase their language and reading skills. For example, a line is no longer just a line. It is a wiggly line. She is describing things.

Fans of Maisy the mouse will love A Book of Maisy Opposites. New readers will enjoy the happy, little mouse. This picture book can double as one to teach colors to preschool children. Ask children, what is the color of Maisy’s face? What is the color of her shirt? That is one reason I like Maisy books. They operate on many levels. Also, use the pictures to identify different objects. Point out the everyday objects such as the sled, bucket, mop and other items. This increases their vocabulary.

Teach toddlers and young elementary children about books. Adults do not pay attention to the routine features of books. It is important for children to handle books appropriately. Have them recognize that a book has a title, was written by an author and has drawings done by an illustrator.
