Pixie Cut for Fine or Coarse Hair

As we age - aged over forty or over fifty - we often experience thinning hair. Your hair may get thinner or finer in texture or both. Often gray hair will be of a different texture than it was in its natural hair color. Changes in hair texture and hair density often call for changes in style. Shorter styles, such as the pixie cut make it easier to create fullness in the hair.

This style, worn by a woman who is over sixty years of age, is cut so that it makes the most of her fine, thin hair. It is tapered close in the nape area and around the ears. The hair at the ears and in the neckline is texturized so that it has a soft fringy effect – creating soft feminine lines instead of hard masculine lines. Hair lengths range from a quarter inch in the neckline and above the ears to about one and one half to two inches in length in the crown of the hair style. It may be slightly longer at the temples to cover thin areas.

For those of you who love a short hair cut like the pixie but have coarse hair. This style works just as well for you. The picture below is of coarse, medium thick hair. It is styled with a small curling iron because her hair is difficult to curl.
