April 23rd- Today is Home Run Day. Now I will be the first person to admit that I am not a huge baseball fan. I do, however, find it interesting how many phrases and sayings we have in common use because of the sport - from striking out, to "hitting a home run", we use sports sayings to describe common situations. When someone talks about a home run, sometimes they are referring to a significant accomplishment. Did you ever have a great success that you could describe as a "home run"? Tell us about it! Or describe the event in your journal.
April 24th - Today is Arbor Day! I love trees. There is something incredible solid and peaceful about a tree - weathering the storms and the wind and the many years of change. Spend a few minutes this morning writing about trees. If you need an inspirational starter consider this quote by Walt Whitman in 'Song of the Open Road', "Why are there trees I never walk under but large and melodious thoughts descend upon me?"
April 25th - "Knowledge...is as the waters, some descending from above, and some springing from beneath the one informed by the light of nature, the other inspired by divine revelation." ~ Francis Bacon
I love learning and it always amazes me how many various ways there are to learn something. Sometimes I learn so much from the books I am reading, other times I am amazed by the insights that come to me from a simple walk around the block with my children.
In what ways have you been taught something new lately?
April 26th - April 26th is Hug a Friend Day and I wonder when the last time is that you gave your friend a hug. Sometimes in our society today, we give very little physical affection to eachother. When is the last time you even just called your friend, or wrote a hand-written letter, to say hello and touch base?
April 27th - Does it feel like spring to you yet? Sometimes spring days are not very spring like to me. I like days that feel like spring. What does spring mean to you? What does it smell like? What does it sound like? What sights and signs mean spring to you?
April 28th - Today was the first day a tourist went to space. Have you ever dreamed about going to space? About finding your own planet or world? Today in your journal, describe a space journey.
April 29th - I remember going to watch the Nutcracker ballet when I was a little girl, and I was so taken by the movement and music working in partnership. I am reminded of this quote, "To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful. This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking." by Agnes De Mille.
Today is National Dance Day and I'm smiling as I write this, remembering the ballet I watched. I felt the power of the dancers as they moved across the stage. Do you have a strong memory involving dance or movement? Alternatively, you can write about something that makes you feel larger, more beautiful or more powerful.
