1961 - President John F. Kennedy made his “man on the moon before the end of the decade” speech to Congress.

Sir Ian McKellen who starred in the “Lord of the Rings” and “X-Men” trilogies was born in 1939.

Cillian Murphy who starred in “Batman Begins” and “28 Days Later” was born in 1976.

Mike Myers of “Saturday Night Live” and star of “Austin Powers” and voice of “Shrek” was born in 1963.

Frank Oz the puppeteer and voice behind such favorites as Yoda, Miss Piggy, Bert and the Cookie Monster was born in 1944.

Bill “Bojangles” Robinson the renowned dancer/entertainer/actor was born in 1877.

Connie Sellecca who starred on TV’s “Hotel” and “The Greatest American Hero” was born in 1955.

Gene Tunney the boxing champion was born in 1897.

Charles Nelson Riley the actor/comedian best remembered for his appearances on “Match Game” passed away in 2007 at the age of 76.

Vic Tayback who starred as Mel on TV’s “Alice” passed away in 1990 at the age of 60.
