Icy Menopause Recipes to Alleviate Hot Flashes

Menopause can be a great excuse to eat delicious and healthful treats. Who’s gonna stop you anyway?!? One of the best antidotes for hot flashes is an icy cold dessert made from fresh berries and citrus juices. The vitamins and minerals in these fruits naturally help combat menopause symptoms while providing your spouse with heart-healthy benefits at the same time. You’ll both enjoy these fruity ices and sorbets even in the dead of winter.

If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can freeze the mixture in a freezer-proof container. Then just before serving, break up the frozen mixture and blend or process it until smooth. Just resist the urge to pour it all over your head! Relief is just a spoon away.

Strawberry-Orange Ice

5 cups fresh or frozen strawberries, thawed
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup orange juice

In a blender or food processor, process strawberries until smooth. In a small pot, combine sugar and juice. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved. Cool for ten minutes. Add to blender and mix until combined. Pour contents into an ice cream maker and freeze as directed OR pour into a freezer container for about five hours. Remove and break up chunks to add to blender or food processor. Blend mixture until smooth. Serve immediately.

Berry Good Sorbet

1-1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries, thawed
1 cups fresh or frozen raspberries, thawed
1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries, thawed
½ cup sugar
1 cup mixed berry juice
½ cup half and half *

In a food processor or blender, process berries until smooth. In a small pot, combine the sugar and juice and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool for ten minutes. Add to berry puree and process until mixed. Pour in half and half and blend well. Pour contents into n ice cream maker and freeze as directed.

*You can substitute soy or almond milk for more menopause aid.

Mango Sorbet

7 cups very ripe mango chunks (approx. 5 mangoes)
¾ cup simple syrup
4 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
1 tsp. fresh lime zest

In a blender or food processor, puree mango until smooth. Add simple syrup, lime juice and lime zest. Process until smooth. Pour into ice cream maker and freeze as directed.

To make simple syrup:

1 cup water
1 cup sugar

Combine water and sugar in a small pot and bring to a boil, stirring until dissolved. Allow to cool.
