A Love Letter To Dad

While writing the Rainy Day Picnics article I started thinking how much more fun they might have been if my dad could have joined us. I realized that I never told him how much I respected and appreciated him.

Father's day is just around the corner. You may have already bought dad a present. Why not add an appreciation letter as well, because sometimes we forget to tell those we love how much we appreciate all they do for us. E-mails are nice but nothing beats a letter. Let dad know how you feel. Tell him how proud you are of his skills and accomplishments. How his sense of humor makes you laugh. Sit back and remember the things he may have done out of what he considered daddy duty but they made you feel loved and special. My dad used to take me to a shop called Kandy Kitchen. O.K. I did ask to go, but he always said yes (daddy duty). Dad would buy a pack of cigarettes and a cup of coffee. I always had a vanilla coke. These times made me feel so special. I never told him, I wish I had. He's gone now but maybe I will write a letter anyway, in present tense.

Dear daddy:

I want to tell you how much I love and respect you...I realize now that you probably needed a little personal space away from business and family when you walked down the street to buy that cup of coffee, but you always let me tag along. I thank you for that. To this day, I can remember every inch of Kandy Kitchen. I even remember the menu....

Have you told your dad lately how much he means to you?
