Create a Multiple Author Blog

Blogging does not have to be a one man show. Any blog topic can benefit from the addition of one or more blog authors. Some blogs need an assist and changing a blog to a multiple author site might be the fix you are looking for.

Benefits of multiple author blogs

Content is probably the biggest benefit of shifting to a multiple author blog. If you are looking for consistent posting, or need a greater number of posts daily or weekly, inviting blogging co-authors is the answer.

Having experts author blog posts on additional topics to cover related niches can broaden your blog’s appeal and expand its readership. Assign co-authors to post for specific regular features on related or complimentary niches. If you have an exercise blog the addition of a nutritionist or chef to write about diet and healthy cooking makes your blog a well-rounded resource to reach a greater number of readers.

Another benefit is to create a more social environment. Adding another blogger potentially adds their followers from their own blog or from their social networks. Their readers may go the extra blog so to speak to find additional content that they co-author elsewhere.

Finding bloggers to author blog posts

After deciding to open up your blog to multiple authors, finding bloggers is not too big of a problem. Consider bloggers who have previously guest posted, commenters who may or may not have a blog but have experience in your niche and post at online blogger job sites (jobs.problogger.net, bloggerjobs.biz, bloggingpro.com/jobs or jobs.wordpress.net). Forums are another resource if you cannot pay or are offering low pay or revenue share as compensation.

Contact respected bloggers of sites you frequent. If you are both experienced in the same or complimentary blogging niches, propose a blog feature to add to each other’s blog on a shared schedule.

Advertise on your blog and via your social media networks. The people following you as your target audience may be filled with blogging prospects. Tap into that resource by devoting a page offering opportunities for other bloggers to become guest bloggers or blog co-authors.

Administering multiple author blogs

Before committing to sharing or handing over the reins make sure expectations are clear. Take the time to create post guidelines for your site. Outline the benefits of co-authoring at your blog, listing ways other authors can monetize or promote their blog and affiliates. Share how you will promote their work outside of your blog and encourage ways for them to reciprocate. Work together on a general editorial calendar to help fill the gaps.

Administratively, have knowledge of what your site allows for assigning contributor permissions. Both Blogger and WordPress allow administrators to set up permissions to protect your current published content and ensure limited rights to co-authors.

Once you have a team in place, share your blog’s successes. Let blog co-authors know how well new posts and features are doing. Use blog themes to help feature posts, highlight the diversity of your blog’s content and share your newly co-authored blogthusiasm!
