Now, back to the recaps.
Back for a second season is the David Spade-led relationship comedy, “Rules of Engagement.” The show centers on three guys, and their very different approaches to relationships. There’s Jeff, the comfortably married one, the newly married Adam, and Russell, the self-proclaimed bachelor for life.
So if you haven’t been watching, here’s what you’ve missed.
Audrey can’t handle Jeff’s snoring and banishes him from their bedroom. He takes the opportunity to relive his bachelor lifestyle – staying up late and living like he is in college. After a while, he grows bore with his freedom and seeks to get back in his wife’s good graces.
Audrey’s sister Barbara (Heather Locklear) comes for a visit when her marriage takes a turn for the worse. Russell elects to take her out on the town, and Audrey is furious. She knows Russell will use every trick in the book to bed her sister. After the “date’ Audrey is shocked to learn that Russell was supportive, understanding, and turned down every advance Barbara made. In fact, Russell used the opportunity to share details about his parents’ divorce and convince Barbara to give her marriage another try. Talk about shocking.
As a woman, sometimes all we need is a sympathetic ear, not a problem solver. This whole issue causes serious complications for Jeff and Audrey, when she has a problem with a neighbor. Jeff sets out to solve the problem, only making things worse and landing him in the doghouse. Meanwhile, Adam and Jennifer decide to make a sex tape. As you know, these things never turn out well. Adam over-analyzes his performance and in turn is unable to perform after that. Jennifer finally decides to tape over the “episode” and bring back some spontaneity.
Audrey invites a friend from work, Katy, and her husband, Ray, over for inner. Jeff unexpectedly hits it off with Ray and they decide to head down to the bar to watch a game. Problems arise when instead of a bar Ray takes Jeff to a strip club and overindulges in the “scenery.” Jeff tells Audrey, but insists she keep quiet because it’s protected under “guy code.” Later, Ray plays a joke on Jeff that violates said code, and Jeff drops Ray.
Russell decides he wants to go after his secretary, but work policy keeps him from doing it. He doesn’t want to fire her and ruin his chances, so he send her to work for Adam and tells Adam to let her go. Adam decides to keep her and work with her to improve. This doesn’t sit well with Jennifer – or Russell, who goes after her anyway.

Finally, his dad and uncle decide to teach Jake how to face his fears like a man – then things really go wrong.

Later, Evelyn introduces Charlie to a girl and the two immediately hit it off. Charlie then finds out it was all part of Evelyn’s plan to break up the woman’s marriage so she can sell their house. Charlie was just a toy in his mother’s game. He almost seems to admire that.
Alan begins dating a new woman, only to find out she’s a little crazy. After they have sex, she sobs uncontrollably. Alan finally ends their relationship. She returns a few days later, explaining that she is back on her medication and returned to her therapist. Alan gives her another chance, but it ends in tears again.
Charlie decides to take a break from the bar scene and bimbos he used to and find a woman with some substance. He lands a date with a judge who is intelligent, attractive, and way too good for him. The date goes terribly, as Charlie makes mistake after mistake. He tries to contact her for a “do over,” but fails in his attempts. Finally he sees her again – after he is arrested and brought before her in court. She agrees to go to dinner if he will stay out of trouble.
Jake, over his fears of junior high, has a girlfriend and stays on the phone with her 24/7. Alan tries to stay cool, but he finally snaps and throws the phone out of the window on the way to bail Charlie out of jail.
Charlie and Judge Linda start getting serious, but visions of Rose threaten to ruin it for him. While out on dates with Linda, Charlie thinks he sees Rose – only with different hairstyles and colors. Desperate, he returns to his therapist who tells him he can never move on to a serious relationship until he gets over Rose.
Charlie heads to London to confront Rose and work things out. She tells him she is in love with him and wants him to commit to her. He thinks about it, but decides to return to L.A. and Linda. As a side note, Rose’s apartment is full of wigs in different styles and colors – she was actually stalking Charlie. Good thing he elected to leave.
