These three books by Julie Patterson in Australia have long been out of print. The patterns are all easy to follow with clear diagrams and photos of the work. They have been brought back into print this week. They would be an excellent addition to any tatter's tatting reference library.

1. Knots and Crosses - 18 Tatted Crosses by Julie Patterson.

This new book of tatted crosses from Julie Patterson of Australia has 30 pages of large photos, easy to read diagrams and step by step directions. There is a list of illustrated abbreviations and her diagrams and explanations of the split ring, split chain, and crossed, beaded picots are excellent.

I was glad to see more designs from Julie not long after this. I quite liked the pattern known as "Cris-Cros" which has interwoven picots in the center. Patterns for the beginner and the experienced tatter as well. Great work! Here is one for you to enjoy:

2. More Crosses Than You Can Bear - 18 Tatted Crosses by Julie Patterson

The second book of tatted crosses from Julie Patterson of Australia is an encore to her first book, "Knots and Crosses." It has 27 pages of large photos, easy to read diagrams and step by step directions. There is a list of illustrated abbreviations and her diagrams and an excellent explanation of block tatting is very well presented. It is a guide that I have used when teaching in my own classes (with JP's permission.)

I was particularly intrigued by the combination of dimpled hearts and chains of Victorian sets in the "Sweetheart" cross. The celtic effect achieved in the "Marnie May" seems to have been created by crossing the work and working back to the jump off point. This is one effect I can't wait to try out! 3. Just Marking Tome by Julie Patterson

Not just another clever title from Julie Patterson of Australia! This third book of designs which follows her previous two successes, "Knots and Crosses" and "More Crosses Than You Can Bear", has 30 jam-packed pages of large full color photos, easy to read diagrams and step by step directions. There is a list of illustrated abbreviations. And she presents the instructions for the dimpled ring in wonderfully clear illustrations.

And just wait until you meet Quinn, her 9-year old son who "helped" with the designs and diagrams, too. I wonder if he was also the inspiration for this charming mitten bookmark.
