New Music Reviews

Michelle Williams-Do You Know ***

On this sophomore release from one of the threesome of Destiny's Child, Ms. Williams proves that becoming an "Independent Woman" can be a good thing. The opening song, "Purpose in Your Storm" starts things off with a Latin infested flavor that gets you moving right away. She takes her listeners on a journey of spiritual enjoyment and gives you the sense that loving the Lord is a festive and fun experience. Not one with a powerful vocal finesse, what she lacks in strong vocal cords she more than makes up for in her spirit and passionate style of delivery on each song. Two stand outs on the project are "The Incident" which caused my children to get there groove on (smile) and the self-penned (Yes she writes too) title track "Do You Know" where she sings with such passion of how God is always with you even in times of pain. Many of the songs were written by Ms. Williams. Talent personified is this artist and I look forward to seeing what she has in store for the future. Ramiya-Ramiya***

"Destiny's Child...Gospel Style" is immediately what you think when you take a look at this new girl group. The image is reinforced with the fact that the ladies in the group have that Destiny Child "look" and one more thing to add, they are on Matthew Knowles (Beyonce's Daddy's) label. However once you put the CD in your player you begin to realize that these ladies have a style that's all their own. Laced with hot tracks, soulful harmonies and a serious hip-hop flow Ramiya's project is a praise party from the beginning to end. You can't help but nod your head to the opening song "Here We Go" (Holla) or get up and get your praise on with "Turn It Out" which features the crisp rapping style of member Stephanie Bonner-Street. On "Don't Nobody Know" the ladies hold their own with legendary Gospel artists Dorinda Clark-Cole, and mother/daughter team Karen and Kierra Sheard. The power of their harmonious voices are on full display with such ballads "Waiting" and "Covered" the stand out being Covered which informs us to start the day out with the covering of God through prayer. This is a good message from the debut of a wonderful group with much promise. Check out this group at www.musicworldmusic.net
