Love Soup Book Review

The author of Love Soup, Anna Thomas, introduces herself and her family heritage at the start of this book, which immediately connects you to the warmth of the recipes ahead. She continues on to inform you of the best places to get your ingredients, such as farmers' markets, and also includes a small section on how to make the recipes vegan if that is your preference as well as marks the soups with a "V" if they are already vegan.

The layout of the book is excellent, with soups listed under headings of seasons. I found that perfect for me because I find I am in a certain mood for certain types of soups depending on the season and the weather. One of her headings is, "the comfort of soup in deep winter," which is an engaging way to accurately describe how we all feel about snuggling under the blankets with a warm cup of soup during the cold months.

A yummy example of one of the winter soups is the "roasted root vegetable soup." This soup was particularly tasty because of the simple process mixing the herbs with olive oil and herbs, and then roasting them in the oven. She advises well to make double the vegetables to add to a risotto or for an omelette, and that is a very practical and delicious recommendation!

Her soups also provide excellent sources of protein for vegetarians. She has more than enough soup recipes with beans and dark leafy greens for protein, such as chard and yam, butter bean and summer vegetable, cannellini beans and golden tomato, roasted eggplant and garbanzo bean, kale and tomato, and several more.

The "from soup to meal" section helps to provide additional recipes to add such as bread, appetizers, salad and desserts. The olive and rosemary focaccia bread is to die for, and is perfect with the summer minestrone soup, heirloom tomato salad, and a happy ending serving of bittersweet chocolate brownies.

Love Soup is my one and only source for delicious soup recipes. Whether you want a hot cup of soup in the winter or a cold soup to refresh you in the summer, this book will provide you with tasty moments of joy.
