What causes depression?
Although no one has a definitive theory as to what the true cause of depression is, there are many aspects to this disorder or ‘feeling’ as many say they have.
Some have linked a genetic trait between family members who are depressed as well as biological changes in the brain. Technically speaking, some of the depressed, saddened times we have in our life are when certain hormones and chemicals in our brain are fluctuating at different levels. Most of the medications prescribed for depression include chemicals specifically designed to help our bodies use serotonin and norepinephrine more effectively.
Death, divorce, failure, abandonment – these are things we automatically think of things that make us depressed. But for some there may be no apparent cause at all. One minute things are fine and the next the planet is falling!
Other potential causes may be rejection, abuse, bodily dysfunctions or deformity, learning disabilities, or pregnancy. This has the potential to be a life altering disorder and those suffering should seek help as soon as possible
