I include this book review in the Christian Living column only to warn my readers that the old saying, "You can’t judge a book by its cover." often rings true.
This book is beautifully packaged! From the high grade of the paper to the beautiful quality of photography, it is very well done. However, this book is not, as it is billed, a guide to spiritual power.
The author uses many beautiful quotations from the Bible, classic writings, and poetry. These are always good reading. However, upon reading the entire text, I was disappointed.
Ms Strupp effectively reduces Jesus Christ to the role of miracle worker and good teacher rather than awesome God, Savior, and Redeemer. See Who is Jesus? and Is Jesus God?
On the other hand, "mother earth" seems to be elevated to deity. Unfortunately, this is an all too common and spiritually fatal misconception. See "The earth"
Phyllis Strupp is obviously well educated and well read and put a lot of work into her book, for it is well constructed with complete index, bibliography and suggested readings. All this gives the appearance of promising reading, but as far as imparting spiritual wisdom, it gets a definite thumbs down from me.
I suggest this book
instead.
