Opening one’s heart and soul to the Great Spirit was a life-giving principle our Ancestors lived by. When this way of living was taken from the masses, generations were left without the knowledge that we are always internally connected to Spirit. Today, a few from the Red Race still practice the sacred ways but far too many continue to be lost. It is possible to reactivate this standard of living in Spirit by developing our trust muscles. It is a spiritually powerful place to begin a journey of relief, hope, peace, and joy.
The daily journey of the wise ones who travelled before us was a spiritual path. Trust in the Creator was a sacred honor, a holy connection. This trust was severed and human souls were crushed by colonization. But our connection to the First Maker was never severed, only blocked by centuries of trauma, shock, and pain. All who still know the sacred worldview of our Ancestors must go out and teach, heal, and bless in honor of the First Maker and his Spirit.
Our Ancestors believed that Mother Earth was a sacred gift and lived appreciating that life was rich with abundance. If we open our hearts and souls to the Great Spirit, if we believe again in a sacred world, faith expands within our hearts, and joy follows behind it. By focusing on the sacred commandments of our Ancestors we become empowered with the Spirit of life.
Trust that the Great Spirit is always nearer than your hand, closer than your breath. Take comfort, take council and welcome peace. Be silent, go out into nature and recognize the presence of the Great Spirit. Recognize the presence of your innermost being. You will never feel lonely again.
Remember the Creator of our Ancestors. Trust that you are loved by the Creator of the universe! Start from there and follow the path of light where it leads you. Resist the temptation to run and hide for cover, let go of the vengeful god of fear that was mistakenly forced upon the souls of our Ancestors.
Refresh your life today from this point of true connection with our Creator by retrieving your soul and opening your heart to the Great Spirit. From this level of truth and power you may begin a journey of religious exploration, possibly travelling full circle and ending back at the holy cross of Christ, but this time on your own terms and in your own light.
“Peace…comes within the souls of men when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells Wakan-Tanka, (Great Spirit) and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.” –Black Elk, Oglala Sioux, 1863-1950
