Resources for 9-11 Commemorations

Developing an appropriate remembrance program can be difficult. Gathered here are sites and materials that may be helpful.

The September Project is connecting libraries around the United States. It "is a collection of people, groups, and organizations working to create a day of engagement, a day of conversation, a day of democracy." This project recognizes that libraries are often the only location open to all views and is the perfect location for a honest discussion. The public library acts as the modern day market place, where all peoples can connect as neighbors.

Jontzen.com offers PowerPoint and song remixes that are appropriate to various types of commemorations. These serve, "As a tribute to the human spirit we have seen in the faces and actions of those in New York and throughout our nation at this time. The following presentations are a series of presentations, musical mixes and images from the tragic events of Tuesday September 11, 2001 and the days following.

"They do not contain graphic or disturbing images, but inspirational images of the reality for the people affected by this horror, and images that show how our country has shown her true American Spirit in the aftermath."

An online exhibition is available at the Library of Congress website. "This exhibition is the story of how the 9/11 materials in this national institution arrived here and today reflect what America has experienced while providing assurance that the record will be here in the future for America's citizens and others to recall and scholars to study."
