Who will stay home with the cubs? There’s an important meeting at the town hall and Mama and Papa Bear need to go to it. So do Gramps and Gran so who will stay with the cubs? Just anyone won’t do…
The Berenstain Bears and the Sitter by Stan and Jan Berenstain
Mama Bear calls around – Aunt Maude is going to the meeting, Uncle Wilber is going to the meeting also. The cubs are getting a bit worried. They want to go to the meeting also, but it’s just for grown-ups.
Mama Bear tells them she will get them a sitter. “Who?” they ask.
She has arranged for Mrs. Grizzle, the bear that lives in the hollow stump at the end of the road. Mama Bear feels better now, but not the cubs.
They remember some times when they weren’t very nice to Mrs. Grizzle. Their ball went into her garden; and a kit hit her in the head.
The cubs are worried, but Mama tried to assure them and tells them that Mrs. Grizzle raised seven cubs of her own. When Mrs. Grizzle arrives and the parents leave for the meeting the cubs are still a bit worried.
But Mrs. Grizzle has a magic bag full of fabulous items. The cubs get busy playing Cat’s Cradle, Tiddlywinks, Go Fish until they are tired and she puts them to bed. She reads them a great story and then sister says “I hope Mama and Papa had a good meeting, because I had a good sit.”
A sweet story that can help dispel some of the worries when having a sitter for the first time. It’s a good book to read again and again.
