Napster and Christmas

The Night before Thanksgiving and all through the house . . .
This holiday season, I fell in love all over again with my Napster to Go subscription. CHRISTMAS MUSIC!!! I have access to lots and lots of holiday music in all the genres that I could possibly ever want.

It started on Thanksgiving eve. My best friend, Kelly, was visiting for the week and we decided to decorate for Christmas to enhance the whole turkey eating experience. It was my mother who suggested music. I pulled out my entire collection of Christmas CDs which totals nine compilations. We played through them once and I was getting ready to start through them again when Kelly asked me a question. “Don’t you have Napster?”

As I contemplated on mixing things up a bit by shuffling my collection, I answered. “Yep, I do.”

“Don’t they have Christmas music? Don’t you have that subscription that lets you play lots and lots of stuff?”

DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello. Yes I did, yes I do. I’m embarrassed to say I never even thought about using my Napster to Go for the holidays. We had a blast. We found something for everyone. My mother requested all of her old favorites, Kelly and I searched and found beloved songs from our childhoods, and we also found some great new stuff. I’m still making discoveries and imagine I will throughout the season.

The Artists and the Music
What have I played so far? Here’s the short list. It grows longer every day.
• The Andrew Sisters
• Bing Crosby
• Barry Manilow
• Brenda Lee
• Dean Martin
• The Ratpack
• Doc Severinsen
• Ella Fitzgerald
• Harry Belafonte
• Jim Nabors
• Mannheim Steamroller
• Mario Lanza
• Nat King Cole
• The Chipmunks
• Reba McEntire

I’m making playlists and loading them on my MP3 player. I’m using a pair of standard desktop/laptop speakers so that the holiday tunes can filter throughout the house and often tumble into the neighborhood. There’s nothing like spreading the spirit.

My Reasons for Doing Music the Way I Do
I know that some of you may question my decision to go with Napster or suggest another service. I will agree that there are many to choose from, however, I love my Napster to Go subscription because it works for me. And, yes, I also use iTunes. I love it as well. See, when I started writing about music, I wanted access to as many artists and bands as possible, without spending a lot of money. Napster to Go is $14.95 a month and allows me to download as many songs as I want to my laptop (I have Windows XP and use Windows Media Player 10) and any compatible Napster device. I started with an MP3 player from Napster, but I plan to upgrade to a Creative Zen version at Christmas. I can keep the music on my laptop or MP3 player for as long as I have the subscription. Now, if I wish to own or burn any of these songs, I need to buy them. As I said above, it works for me and I really enjoy it. I added the link to Napster in the related links area at the bottom of the page if you would like to check out this service.

Have a great week!
Chel
