Blow Dry Care – Hair Care Review

I tested three Blow products from the New York Blow Dry Bar salon located in New York City. These three products each have unique qualities that made them very interesting to me.

The first item I tried out is called Faux Dry. It is a dry shampoo. I was interested in this and a little concerned, because of my previous experience with dry shampoo products – many years ago and not a pleasant experience. The original dry shampoo did absorb oil from the hair, but it left a powdery residue that gave the hair a dull, mat finish. Back then, I preferred to shampoo in the traditional way rather than put up with dusty hair.

Faux Dry is a much improved dry shampoo. It is a blend of amaranth, lupine and wheat. Micronized cornstarch absorbs oil from the hair. I separated my hair and shook a little bit of the powder onto the root area of my hair. I worked it around with my fingers and the powder seemed to disappear. After I combed through my hair, the excess oil was gone and Faux Dry left the hair with a clean looking shine. The hair lifted up off the scalp without the feeling of product on it. I will use this on days when I want to freshen my hairstyle in a hurry.

The next Blow product I tested was Damage Control Restorative Hair Mask. It is a deep conditioning treatment that works in only five minutes. I shampooed my hair, blotted it with a towel and worked in Damage Control. I combed it through my hair and continued with my shower. I’m not sure whether I left the product on my hair for the full five minutes but when I was done showering, I rinsed my hair.
The result was soft silky hair that felt strong and full of body. I like this conditioner.

Third on my list was Weather Girl, Climate Neutralizing Complex. It contains silk and soy proteins to repair damage from heat styling and enhance flexibility. Weather Girl is a light serum that felt very slippery on my hands before and after I applied it to my hair. The serum seemed to absorb into my hair, leaving it shiny and helping to tame frizz. Soon, the excess serum that was on my hands seemed to absorb into my skin and my hands no longer felt slippery. Later, I deliberately tried to put too much on my hair. This experiment resulted in no ill effects.

UPDATE: About a week after the first trial, I applied Weather Girl to damp hair and blow dry styled my hair. This day was very humid - very damp feeling. I am happy to report that my hair kept its style all day. It did not get frizzy or revert to its natural waves. The Climate Neutralizing Complex description seems to be right on target.

As another experiment, I used Weather Girl on my wet hair when letting it dry naturally for a curly style. I was very happy with these results. The natural curls dried into nice spiral ringlets - excellent results without a lot of product.

The New York Blow Dry Bar has two locations in New York City. The products are available their website Blow New York.com and some specialty retailers.
