In Tarot, he often comes to show us a need to keep an open mind and heart, to be patient and glean lessons from our current experiences which may benefit us in the future.
When we are too focused on future goals or so fixated on what we hope to accomplish, we miss out on a wealth of information and valuable experience here and now. The fool tells us to approach life as an adventure and enjoy the ride.
Tarot Wisdom of the Fool Card
From “Spiritual Guidance Tarot”
"The Fool Card represents each of us as we travel our life path. All of our experience along the way shape and mold us into our fullest potential. In our lives we play the roles of both the teacher and the student, the wise and the foolish, etc. In this card we see the young man prancing along with his dog, enjoying the sunny day and being thankful for all he's received. He is near the edge of the cliff. The lesson is one of balance, not to be so oblivious that we fall off the path, but not to be so serious and calculating that we forget to be spontaneous, youthful, and joyful at the process of life."
Body, Mind, & Spirit
All cards have lessons that correspond to our “whole being”. Our physical, mental, and emotional “bodies” are all linked together and what affects one directly affects the others. For that reason, I also like to focus on the separate but equally important and interlinked aspects of the cards as well.
Body: This is a card of learning, being open-minded and embracing alternatives. In regards to physical health and well being it can indicate a need to be a bit more forward thinking or less for the moment. Consider the long term benefits/consequences of your actions. A good time to consider taking up new activities and/or habits that promote good health to ensure you have the vitality and energy necessary to enjoy your life's journey.
Mind: The fool speaks of keeping an open mind and making the most of the present moment. In this card, he is dancing on the path enjoying the journey itself. He doesn't look back and he's not overly concerned about the future. As a result he puts his full attention where he has the most power - the present. When we look backwards we stop moving and when we focus only on the future, we miss the wisdom that can be gleaned by being fully present and aware.
Spirit: The Fool speaks of enthusiasm for life, not looking back with regret or fearing what might happen in the future. He has a sense of adventure, embraces life as a great spiritual journey with immense opportunities for growth and new understanding. He embraces life as an education and places faith in himself and the universe to guide him to necessary experiences. This allows him to live fully in the moment. As a result his life is more enriched and fulfilled. The spiritual message of this card is look for ways to enjoy more of your life right now and stop postponing joy.
