We hear a lot of negative news regarding choice and abortion. There are countless stories of harassment, and protests, violence and murder. We are repeatedly subjected to the groups who are the most concerned over the rights of the unborn, and forcing what is good for them, on everyone else.
This article is not about any of that. This is about an amazing project whose sole intent is based on the women’s own needs, rather than the needs of the fetus she is carrying.
WRRAP as it is called, is run by volunteers devoted to helping women, who otherwise would not be able to afford an abortion, even if terminating the pregnancy is her best option.
The anti abortion supporters argue that abortion is never a women’s best option, and therefore should not even be a consideration. Repeatedly, the same supporters fail to see, that because of some of their own agendas, birth control is often unaffordable and unattainable.
The need for abortions will always be higher, where birth control is not in the budget. Many anti choice supporters argue women who cannot afford birth control should only practice abstinence, problem solved.
We all know, whether we admit it or not, that is not a long-term goal with a lot of viability.
So now, with women in cases of poverty, unable to obtain birth control, you have a higher rate of unplanned pregnancy. Surely, the woman will hit the jackpot sometime in the next nine months, and all will be fine. For those who do not and would choose the option of abortion, but cannot afford the expense, there is hope.
Facts show even when the abortion rate goes down, the low-income group goes up. Less than half of the U.S states have financial assistance in place for low-income women seeking abortions, and over a dozen of those require a court order. Abortion may still be legal, but there is not a single aspect of it, that is not difficult.
The Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project and the supporters of choice, who donate the funds, are working to change that. Started in Los Angeles by the National Council for Jewish Women, the funds raised by the volunteers, go to clinics all over the country, to provide the finances to perform abortions on low-income women, who choose to abort their unplanned pregnancy.
Of every one dollar raised, ninety-five cents goes directly to the women who need it. Services are provided through this project all across the country. Most of the clinics are directly affiliated with the National Abortion Federation (NAF) or the National Coalition of Abortion Providers (NCAP).
The services the funds provide are completely free, and the women are not judged for the decision or their circumstances. Its women helping women unconditionally, and helping to make sure women’s rights remain supported.
Donations are tax deductible and acceptable through check or via Paypal. You can also sign up to be a "guardian of choice” by setting up monthly credit card payments, or even do your online shopping through their WRRAP Mall, where 15% of every transaction goes toward giving women reproductive choices, who regardless of the law, otherwise wouldn’t have any.
