Avocado Nutrition and Recipes

Avocados are green fruit used often in Mexican and other spicy dishes. It's about the size of a large fist, but is oblong in shape with a dark green, slightly bumpy texture.

Avocados was first used by various Mexican-area tribes as far back as 6,000 years ago or more. This fruit was thought to be an aphrodisiac and soon was a favorite import for European tables. In current times, many people know avocados best because of guacamole, a Mexican condiment.

Avocados are chock-full of potassium, and contain almost 50% more potassium than bananas do. Avocados also have a lot of Vitamin E in them - a vitamin associated with healthy skin. Because of this, you find a lot of beauty treatments that involve avocado mixtures.

Low carbers LOVE avocados. Why? Because avocados only have 3g of carbs per 30g - and ALL 3g of those are fiber carbs and therefore can be discounted. In a way, an avocado is completely zero carb. It gives you a good fiber dose, it has great potassium, it has great vitamin E, and it's quite tasty.
