Mary Mother Of Jesus

The Quran tells a very different story about Mary the mother of Jesus. Chapter 19 of the Quran is named Mary. It tells the story of the virgin birth of Jesus. The Quran tells us about Mary’s birth too in the chapter entitled The Amarmites.

Chapter 3, verses 33 – 37
God has chosen Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham and the family of Amram as messenger to the people. They belong to the same progeny. God is Hearer, Omniscient. The wife of Amram said, “My Lord, I have dedicated what is in my belly to You, totally, so accept from me. You are Hearer, Omniscient.” When she gave birth to her, she said, “My Lord, I have given birth to a girl.” God was fully aware of what she bore. “The male is not the same as the female. I have named her Mary and I invoke Your protection for her and her descendants from the rejected devil.” Her Lord accepted her a gracious acceptance, and brought her up a gracious upbringing, under the guardianship of Zachariah. When Zachariah entered her sanctuary he found provisions for her. He would ask, “Mary, where did you get this from?” She would say, “It is from God, God provides for whoever He chooses, without limits.”

The angels tell Mary that God chose her from all the women (3:42-47) and that God gives her good news, a Word from Him whose name is ‘The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary’ and that he will be prominent in this world and one of the closest to God in the Hearafter. They tell Mary that Jesus will speak to the people from the crib as well as an adult and that Jesus will be one of the righteous.

Chapter 19, verses 16-20
Mention in the scripture Mary. She isolated herself from her family, into an eastern location. While a barrier separated her from them we sent to her our Spirit. He went to her in the form of a human being. She said, “I seek refuge in the Most Gracious that you might be righteous.” He said, “I am the messenger of your Lord to grant you a pure son.” She said, “How can I have a son when no man has touched me. I have never been unchaste?”

In the Quran, in chapter 19 God tells us how Mary isolated herself from her family and took herself into an eastern location (19:16, 22) in a faraway place. When it came to the birth process she was by the trunk of a palm tree. She was so ashamed of her condition that she wished she was dead and completely forgotten, but the infant Jesus called to her from beneath and told her not to grieve, for God had provided her with a stream to drink from. Jesus told Mary to shake the trunk of the palm tree so that it would drop ripe dates for her (19:23-25). (Dates ripen and fall from the trees in the Middle East in September and October.)

Mary took a vow of silence until she came to her family carrying him. They were shocked at her unexpected delivery (19:27-28). She pointed at the child in the crib, but they asked, “How can we talk with an infant in the crib?” To which Jesus replied, “I am a servant of God. He has given me a scripture and appointed me a prophet.” (19:29-40).

In the Quran Joseph is not part of the story of the virgin birth of Jesus.

Chapter 19, verse 34-35
That was Jesus, the son of Mary, and this is the truth of the matter, about which they continue to doubt. It does not befit God that He begets a son, be He glorified. To have anything done, He simply says to it “Be,” and it is.
