There are additional eye problems a child may have that can lead to being misdiagnosed with learning disabilities such as ADHD, because the child can't concentrate on reading very long.
Most people know about lazy eye syndrome, but there can be less obvious problems either in seeing and tracking across a page of words, or in the pathway from the outside world to the brain.
Some common complaints that might signal a hidden visual problem include short attention span reading, headaches, poor reading comprehension, sloppy handwriting.
I've already written on the vision disorder Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome.
For an in-depth view on additional vision disorders I recommend an informative article written by Bill Hendrick for "The Atlanta Journal-Constitution" about vision therapy treatments that correct some of these hidden eye problems.
I have first hand experience with this problem, because it affects one of my family members and vision therapy is helping.
