The hat is made using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn. I used 2 shades of green for mine. The scarf is made using only 1 strand, so it is only 1 color, but I used the lighter color to make the fringe on the ends. If you make the scarf with 2 strands it will be too bulky to wrap around your doll's neck.
Materials
size 13 (9mm) knitting needles
worsted weight yarn in 2 coordinating colors, less than 3 ounces of yarn is required so use up your left over yarn.
A piece of cardboard 6 inches long.
Small crochet hook (size F is a good choice).
Hat
Cast on 36 stitches (with 2 strands, throughout). Work in K1, P1 ribbing for about one inch or about 5 rows.
Row 6 - Knit across (right side).
Row 7 - Purl across.
Row 8 - [Knit 2 together, Knit next 5 stitches], repeat between [ and ] to end of row.
Row 9 - And all odd number rows, purl across.
Row 10 - [Knit 2 together, knit next 4 stitches], repeat between [ and ] to end of row.
Row 12 - [Knit 2 together, knit next 3 stitches], repeat between [ and ] to end of row.
Row 14 - [Knit 2 together, knit next 2 stitches], repeat between [ and ] to end of row.
Row 16 - [Knit 2 together, knit 1 stitch], repeat between [ and ] to end of row.
Row 18 - [Knit 2 together], repeat to end of row.
Row 20 - Repeat row 18.
Row 21 - Bind off in pattern.
Stitch the side seam closed.
Scarf
With 1 strand of yarn and size 13 needles, cast on 4 stitches. Work in garter stitch (knit all rows) until scarf is the desired length. If you have used 2 different colors to make your hat use whichever color you did not use for the scarf, and wrap it around the 6 inch piece of cardboard 8 times. Slide the yarn off the cardboard and cut it at both ends, to make 16 strands of yarn, each about 6 inches long. Fold 2 strands of yarn in half and loop them over the crochet hook to pull the strands through one of the 4 stitches, at each end of the scarf, making a loop about 1/2 inch high. Then pull the ends of the strands through the loop and pull the loop tight to hold the strands of yarn in place. Repeat this with the other 7 stitches on the ends of the scarf, to make the fringe.
Thank-you to Susan Kramer for providing the beautiful doll that models the hat and scarf.
